I started recording on a regular basis different things and their normal prices and special rates found in the loblaws circulaire and noticed that I really could buy double the volume of food for half the price. The goal was to keep things in the refrigerator and purchase things in quantities. For example if chicken meat was on special, I could possibly buy greater amounts then put them in Ziploc bags and freeze them. This way I always had adequate food to keep me going and never ever default on rent.
One more thing I started to do was preparing marinates for my meat items. I realized that I didn't always want to purchase pre-marinated meats from the grocery store because it was way more pricey so I began reading about marinates that I preferred and would allow my meats sit for a day then I would Ziploc them and freeze.
Last of all, once you notice how much money you can save you begin to realize that fruits and vegetables are so affordable that you would like to purchase everything. Just be sure you purchase enough because things decay faster than you think.
